The Mary Johnson Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship was established in 2015 by Mary Johnson's family as a way to remember and honor her as a former district employee in Food Service and a mother and grandmother to Madison High School alumni. Mary Bartmann emigrated to the U.S. from Germany in 1951 when she was 20 years old to help relatives who farmed near Montrose. She married Bernard Johnson in 1956 and he couple farmed in Lake County. All six of their children and six of their grandchildren attended Madison Central Schools. Mary learned English as an adult so language fluency was important to her.

This scholarship will be awarded to a MHS senior who has demonstrated an aptitude for learning a foreign language, who plans to attend college to continue studying foreign language or education, to teach ESL.
